Fantasy Road Trip Contest for Teens

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity for your young adult patrons to participate in this summer—Listening Library’s Fantasy Road Trip Contest!  Participating in the contest is a great way to engage teens in what they’re reading and encourage them to be creative.  And since many families will be forgoing expensive vacations and summer camps this year, the Fantasy Road Trip Contest is a perfect (and free!) summer activity.

Listed below you’ll find details about the contest to get you more familiar with the promotion; if you’ve already registered for Teen Read Week, keep an eye out for a blurb in that newsletter soon as well.

THINGS TO KNOW:

Ø  CONTEST INFO: Listening Library is sponsoring a video contest for teens ages 13-18 to create short films that answer the questions, “If you could go on a road trip with a character from your favorite audio series, where would you go?  What would you do along the way?  How would you travel?”

Ø  PARTICIPATING AUTHORS: Libba Bray, author of the Gemma Doyle Trilogy (A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Thing), Tamora Pierce, author of, among many, many titles, the Beka Cooper series (her current series, so far it includes Terrier and Bloodhound), and Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series (including the latest, The Last Olympian).

Ø  HOW TO ENTER: teens can visit www.fantasyroadtripcontest.com for all the details about how to enter, video requirements and information about the authors and their books.  Don’t miss the animated video introducing the contest!

Ø  WINNERS: Authors will judge the videos and then each author will pick a winner (for a total of three), who will receive an 8GB iPod Touch and a collection of signed audiobooks.

Ø  DATES: The contest will be open from June 1-August 17; it’s a great activity to keep kids entertained while they’re home for the summer!

We’ve printed some beautiful four-color postcards with details about the contest—if you’d like some to hand out to patrons at your library, please email audio@randomhouse.com to request materials. If a number of teens from your library decide to create videos and you’d like to host a screening of their entries, let us know and we can provide some audios (possibly signed) to use as giveaways during your event.

I hope you’ll all pass this along to teens you know who would be interested in making videos, we’re very excited to see their work!

Thank you,
