  • ALSC Institute: There’s Nothing Else Like It - Posted Thursday, May 6, 2010

    Greetings!  The 2010 ALSC National Institute is taking place in Atlanta on September 23 – 25, 2010 at the Emory Conference Center, and we'd love for you to join us!  The ALSC Institute touches on some of the most important topics in library service for children such as technology in the library, collection development, and programs and partnerships.  You’re sure to go home feeling reinvigorated about the profession and more connected to others in the field.  Still curious why you should attend the ALSC Institute? 

     

    - For as little as $360 you receive nearly 30 hours of educations programming that includes five programs, three keynote sessions, and multiple networking activities.  Registration also includes all handout materials, meals and snacks.

    Join The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) for our upcoming Student Session, “Getting Your First Library Job: Tips from Library Directors,” tomorrow, Wednesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. CST.

     

    With today’s economy, you’ll need an extra edge to land that first library job.  Let ALSC help.  Join us for a discussion about the skills that make new librarians more marketable, new technologies that directors will hope you know how to use, and most importantly, how you can stand out in a sea of new graduates.  Session will include ample time for Q&A.  Panelists include Therese Bigelow, assistant director, Chesapeake (VA) Public Library, and Gene Nelson, director, Provo (UT) City Library.

  • ALSC Professional Awards, Grants and Scholarships - Posted Tuesday, October 6, 2009

    This year,  the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is offering libraries and librarians more than $85,000 in grants and funding through its 2010 professional awards and scholarships.  These awards recognize outstanding library service to children through creative programming ideas and dedication to librarianship. 

     

    Applications for awards and grants are now available on the ALSC Web site at www.ala.org/alsc; applications for scholarships will be posted on the ALSC Web site in the near future.  All applications are due Dec. 1, except for The Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship and the Bound to Stay Bound Books Scholarship, which are due March 1.

  • Woman's Day Magazine - Posted Thursday, March 5, 2009

    Through a partnership with the Campaign for America's Libraries, the March issue of Woman's Day magazine features four readers who used the library to improve their health and wellness.  In the article, it also announces the next initiative between ALA and the magazine.  Woman's Day is asking readers to write in about how they've used the library to save money.  Entries in 700 words or less are being accepted through May 18.
